In the ditch at our roadside bivouvac Kalamai, during a lull in the heaviest bombing and machine gunning 27 April 41.  Peter Nield doles out pears he had found to Jack Burrows and Tony Boycott.

4. 517 Coy Greece Train - Spaven

Troop train from Navploin to Kalamata, c midday 26 April 1941, during evacuation of Greece about to cross lattice girder viaduct at Sirtis between Achladokampos and Eleohorion villages.  Ju 87s overhead at the time but did not attack.  About 50 RASC, 517 Topo and Map Depot pers  and other L of C troops plus Greeks and Palestinians on board.  A Tank Corps major was on the footplate of the 1st engine.  Photo taken from window of rear carriage.
